Dell Monitor – Tear Down & Repair

So, from lurking on hackaday I found this which has a lot of tips on repairing lcd monitors, so I decided to take apart and fix a busted Dell E151FPp monitor. As far as i can tell, the only problem is that the backlight does not turn on. The power led on the front lights up when it is plugged in and turned on and the OSD comes up with a little box saying nothing is connected. Telling if anything else works is hard to tell without a backlight, but the screen seems to go blank if I press the menu button or connect it to a computer. Seems like I have my work cut out for me.

Well, after examining the boards better I have determined that the inverter board is dead. I can't seem to find a replacement one, so I've decided I'll just have to find a substitute. Check out the video:

  1. I have this monitor and i have no use for it so would i be able to turn this into a widescreen monitor by removing the LCD and replacing it with a laptop LCD or would this not work?
